Citizens of India who put in an application for US immigration visas will now be able to check the status of their application via the internet, a statement made by the US Consulate General of Kolkata says. The US Mission in India, which is a sector of the US Embassy, is to offer superior customer service 24 hours per day as well as continued transparency while the application process is underway.
Both immigrant visa and non-immigrant visa applications will be able to be checked via the brand new Consular Electronic Application Center Status Check. Individuals will require their barcode from CEAC as well as either the case number for immigrant visa status or the interview location for non-immigrant cases. The CEAC will then be able to report to them the current status of their application for US visas.
For those applying for non-immigrant visas, the status they will be told will be either “administrative processing,” “issued,” “no status,” “ready” or “refused.” For those who have applied for an immigrant visa the status they will be presented with online will either be “administrative processing,” “expired,” “expiring soon,” “issued,” “ready,” “refused,” “return to NVC” or “transfer in progress.”
The new initiative follows hot on the heels of a number of other enhancements that have been made in recent times, including the expanded Interview Waiver program and offsite fingerprinting and photography services. The initiatives are intended to streamline customer service, improve travel between the United States and India and give more people the opportunity to apply for visas.
