President-Elect, Donald Trump has pledged a revamped immigration plan, which is firm but has heart, for undocumented immigrants who are in tough situations.
Trump, who is set to become President of the US on Friday, was interviewed by Ainsley Earhardt on Fox & Friends, on Tuesday. The President-Elect stated that he was aware of the predicament of Dreamers, the undocumented immigrants who came to the US as minors and that his administration’s new plan for immigration will be delivered within the next three months.
Trump says that the plan will be firm but have a heart and that the plight of Dreamers is going to be looked into. The President-Elect called it a difficult situation but one that he felt sure people would be happy with the solution.
A compassionate approach may not be what most will expect from a Trump Presidency, given his hard-line stance during his election campaign, when he proposed deporting all undocumented immigrants currently living in the US. He has, though, softened that rhetoric since winning the election in November, prioritizing the deportation of the undocumented immigrants with serious criminal records before devising a plan for those remaining.
Trump has also promised to introduce a new immigration system based on merit. This would give priority to high-skilled immigrants, a plan he says would be of great benefit to tech companies, such as those in Silicon Valley, where immigration is an issue that has been of great concern.
