Not all undocumented immigrants will have to worry about being deported from the US if Donald Trump wins the Presidential election in November. This is according to comments made on Sunday by one of his top aides in the Republican Party.
In an interview with CNN, Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York, said that decisions would not be made about what to do with the majority of undocumented immigrants currently living in the US until the deportation of all the nation’s criminal immigrants had been successfully undertaken. Giuliani said that Trump’s policy speech, which generated more controversy last week, merely reiterated the same stance that the billionaire has always taken – that the securing of the US border and the removal of criminal immigrants is his main priority.
Giuliani added that Trump has already noted that he would find it difficult to support any policy that resulted in the removal of families who have been in the US for many years and who may have children who already hold US citizenship. Giuliani says Trump wants a rational discussion on how to deal with those people once the major priorities have been handled.
Giuliani added that it was highly unlikely that any eventual policy would force all undocumented immigrants to leave the US, and that the outcome of such cases would most likely depend on the behavior of the individual during their time in the country.
