Immigration Loophole Allows 40,000 Overseas Students into the US

A loophole in US immigration laws is enabling thousands of undocumented immigrant students to get special US visas to enter the country. This is according to a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies.

The report on the scam revealed that the student documentation needed for immigrants to clear the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) immigration requirements is provided by 42 of the worst universities and colleges in the country, some of which are not even properly accredited. According to the report, called DHS Allows F-1 Visas for Students Going to Ghost Colleges, the schools are then able to fill their classes and poor students are allowed to enter the US.

Around 40,000 immigrant students have enrolments in the dubious colleges, many of which no longer have any Accrediting Council for Independent Schools and College’s accreditation, with that organization having lost its own power to accredit and recognize from the Department of Education because of its notoriously low standards, the Center for Immigration Studies claims.

David North, the immigration expert who wrote the report, says that to win US visas, overseas students need evidence they have been accepted into American universities and colleges, but that such documentation can be given by unaccredited schools, thanks to a loophole giving them time to appeal their demotion. North says that many of the immigrants deliberately seek out the country’s lowest quality schools to gain the documentation they need to enter the US.
