A new report from the research organization, New American Economy, has revealed that Fremont, San Francisco, and San Jose are among the top ten cities in the US for immigrants. The report analyzes socioeconomic outcomes and local policies to determine the success of the 100 biggest cities in the US in helping with the integration of new immigrants into their communities.
The report looked at issues including the way in which local law enforcement treat immigrants in the cities and the size of their activity in the city’s workforce. San Francisco came in fifth place in the study, with the report stating that the city had strong community resources and government leadership on immigrants, although its economic prosperity could still be improved.
San Jose came in seventh place, recognized for its economic empowerment, civic participation, strong government leadership, and legal support, although the report pointed out that improvements could be made to job opportunities as well as livability, particularly in for healthcare, education, and housing. Officials announced the report’s findings on 19 September at a City Hall noon press conference in San Jose. Fremont came in ninth place, highlighted both for livability and the legal support available to immigrants.
New American Economy’s website says that the organization conducts bipartisan research and advocates for immigration policies at federal, local, and state levels that help to grow the US economy.
