SEIU, otherwise known as the Service Employees International Union, yesterday launched an advertising campaign on television worth more than $300,000 that calls on Congress to rebuild the US immigration system so that it pays tribute to American values, supports working families and strengthens the economy. The union has come up with the advertising campaign in order to draw further attention to the approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants who are currently living in the United States without having the legal authorization to be able to gain citizenship or get a green card.
“Congress should get the message that the American public is ready for immigration reform,” Mary Kay Henry, the SEIU International President, declared in a statement. “Generations of workers and determined families from all walks of life have continuously contributed to our society and our economy. Together we have proven that America works best when we all do our part together.”
The advertisement sees the Union calling for immigration reform, which boosts the US economy while also establishing a pathway to US citizenship, and keeps families together. The narrator in the script for the SEIU advert says that Americans work together to fix things that are broken and that with the immigration system being just that, Congress now has a chance to fix it in a way that is both fair and accountable.
Sixty-three percent of Americans support a plan to allow undocumented immigrants to get a path to citizenship so long as they meet certain requirements, according to Reuters.
