The US needs to put an end to a culture of illegal immigration lawlessness, which cuts the wages of American workers and threatens their safety. This is according to the country’s new Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who made the comments on Thursday, during the ceremony to swear him into his new position.
Sessions has pledged to make effective use of his position within the Justice Department to protect the people of the US and to deal with crime. Sessions says that the country needs a lawful immigration system, which puts the interest of its people first. He notes that the US already allows more than a million immigrants to legally enter every year and adds that there is nothing indecent or immoral about ending illegal immigration that harms the country and its people.
The Senate confirmed the former state Senator of Alabama on Wednesday, in a 52-47 vote. Senate Democrats challenged Sessions in his confirmation hearing about his attitudes to civil rights, religious freedoms, and the US immigration policies. During the hearing, Sessions also made a pledge to improve cooperation between local law enforcement and the Justice Department and to enforce the law of the US.
Sessions was nominated for the position of Attorney General of the US by President Donald Trump three months ago, back in November 2016. Trump described Sessions as a great attorney and having a great legal mind.
