On Tuesday, a Mexican man wanted for homicide in his own country was deported by Enforcement and Removal Operations officers from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, in Dallas. Ever Alonso Deras-Morales, aged 26, was sent to Laredo, Texas, on the border between the US and Mexico. He was transported by bus and given over to the custody of the authorities in Mexico on 11 October.
Deras-Morales entered the US illegally on March 18 this year near Ajo in Arizona while attempting to smuggle marijuana. He was found guilty of this crime in federal court on 28 March and given a prison sentence of 180 days. Enforcement and Removal Operations were informed on 31 August, by the Procuraduria General de la Republica of Mexico, that Deras-Morales had an outstanding warrant for vehicular homicide in Mexico.
The field director of the Dallas ERO office, Simona L. Flores, says that ICE officers will not allow criminal immigrants to use the US as a safe haven to hide from the consequences of criminal activities committed in their own countries.
Since the beginning of October 2009, Enforcement and Removal Operations have deported over 1150 foreign criminals from the US who were wanted in their home nations for serious offences, such as kidnapping, murder and sexual assault. 235,413 removals were carried out in the 2015 fiscal year with 91 percent of those removed having been convicted of criminal offences.
