Real estate mogul Donald Trump, who has thrown his hat into the ring for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party, has again lashed out against undocumented immigrants, saying that the current immigration policy in the United States has enabled criminals from other nations to cross over into America.
On Friday, in Los Angeles, Trump met with some of the families who have lost loved ones due to the crimes committed by those who were in the United States illegally. “People came into the country illegally and killed their children,” Trump noted of the families during a press conference held at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, adding: “It’s a very sad thing that’s happened to our country.”
Trump has been deluged with controversy since the politically incendiary speech he made on June 16th while announcing his decision to run for the Republican Party presidential nomination next year, during which he claimed that many undocumented immigrants crossing over the border into the United States and Mexico were rapists and other criminals. During the press conference on Friday, five people whose loved ones have died as a result of undocumented immigrants joined Trump with pictures of their family members, reiterating his belief that the country’s current immigration system allowed the perpetrators to come into the US and then receive little or no time in jail for their crimes.
Jamiel Shaw, whose son was shot dead by an undocumented immigrant, says that other Republican presidential candidates have tried to “bamboozle” them with false promises about border enforcement; however, their criticism of Trump shows otherwise.
