I-698 (Application to Adjust Status from Temporary to Permanent Resident (Under Section 245A of the INA))

The amnesty program under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) gives temporary resident status to certain amnesty seekers. Eventually, as these immigrants create a life for themselves in the US they sometimes wish to stay in the US and participate in a more full way in US society. US immigration law allows these persons to apply for a green card. To do this, applicants must be eligible for US permanent residency and must file USCIS Form I-698 (Application to Adjust Status from Temporary to Permanent Resident (Under Section 245A of the INA)). The form costs more than $1000 to file and may require a biometrics fee for some applicants.
