USCIS Form I-687 (Application for Status as a Temporary Resident Under Section 245A of the Immigration and Nationality Act) is unusual in that its purpose has changed over time. Originally, this form was filed by applicants taking part in the legalization program under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) Section 245A, part of the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. That program was finished in 1988 but the form still continues to be used, largely by applicants who want to apply for benefits under settlement agreements. If you qualify for benefits under a settlement program you may be told to use this form.
