According to the US Department of State, an application to take part in the DV 2015 Green Card Lottery Program must be filed between Tuesday, October 1, 2013 and Saturday, November 2, 2013.
To enter this program, a foreigner must file an application online, paper applications are not accepted. While filing applications, the applicants need not pay any fee. They just need to file their applications along with their photographs that meet the specifications. However, they need to pay the required fee if they win the lottery program, at the time of applying for immigrant visas.
Applications must be filed within the registration period that runs between 1st October 2013 and 2nd November 2013. People who seek to take part in the diversity visa lottery program but miss the registration period will have to wait until the next Green Card lottery. That is because the Department of State will not accept applications filed after the registration period.
People who are dependent on this lottery program to immigrate to the United States must keep in mind that DV 2015 would be the last Green Card lottery if the Senate immigration reform bill is passed. So this is the right time for the ones who rely on the lottery program, to get a Green Card and to settle in the United States, to enter the lottery program.
Prior to filing an application, applicants must check whether they are eligible to participate in Green Card lottery and they belong to a country that is eligible to take part in this program. That is because not all the countries are in the list of Green Card lottery eligible countries. People who belong to regions with high rates of US immigration cannot participate in the DV lottery program.
As the applications must be submitted online, applicants must submit digital photographs of themselves as well as their eligible dependents, along with their DV applications. The names of the applicant’s spouse and children must be listed even if the spouse and children will not immigrate with him/her to the United States. Eligible dependents of the primary applicant will also become eligible for immigrant visas if the primary applicant wins the lottery program and becomes eligible for an immigrant visa. A husband and a wife can both file separate applications.
