Once the applicants attend their biometrics appointment, they will need to wait for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to schedule naturalization interviews. USCIS will send interview appointment notices to the applicants that will include the date, time and place of the interview. Applicants must report at the interview location at least 30 minutes prior the scheduled time of interview. They will need to take with them their interview appointment notices, to the interview.
The naturalization interview is an important step in the citizenship process and it is important not to miss this interview. In case they miss their interviews, they will need to write to the USCIS office where they were scheduled for interviews and request the immigration officers to reschedule their interviews.
During the interview, interviewing officers will ask the applicants few questions about their Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. Followed by that, they will be given the civics and the English tests. Ten questions related to the U.S. history and laws will be asked by the interviewing immigration officers and to get through the civics test, applicants will need to answer 6 questions correctly.
The English test includes three parts. Applicants will need to establish that they possess good writing, reading and speaking skills. To prove that, they will need to write one out of three given sentences correctly in English. Likewise, they can prove that they are good at reading by reading out one out of three given sentences correctly. Interviewing officers will speak to the applicants in English throughout the interview. The way the applicants answer their questions will help them to make sure that the applicants are good at speaking.
To prepare for this interview, applicants can make use of the resources offered by USCIS. However, not all the applicants will be required to take these tests and USCIS grants exemptions to certain categories of applicants. Seniors and applicants with disabilities will be granted certain exceptions to these tests.
